At summer's End

After a little time off, Kathy has rejoined us and helped finish the raised beds.

She is calm, extremely knowledgeable, and very flexible.

The beds are almost finished.  They will be designated to Special Ed, Culinary for now.

The other side shows how we still have large amounts of trash going out.

And in keeping with the theme, the sink is pretty.

A KEY to Our Success

An essential part of our garden's success is the members of the community that are willing to donate their time and efforts into improving our club. A few of Corona del Sol's KEY Club members spent their Saturday morning helping out in the garden.

In the photos above, and below, these volunteers were leveling a portion of the garden so that it could be ready to inlay the ceramic students' mosaic tiles.

They also helped build another raised garden bed....

..and new seedlings were then added to the filled garden bed.

Thank you to Corona del Sol's KEY Club for taking their time and improving the garden!

Raising beds

It's time to try an alternative method of planting our produce.  My most dreaded enemy, the grass, and its friends, the weeds, took over the nice rows we planted with peas, kale, etc.  I did not have it in me to try planting in rows again, so we are solarizing instead.

And a raised bed is now in place.

Along with a watering system that will make it self-sufficient once hooked up onto a timer.
