Cosmos

In the eloquent language of flowers, cosmos flowers symbolize peace and tranquility.

Now that it is almost spring, the flowers have bloomed and seem to be telling us that they are calm and happy in the garden.

Peace (Peas) in the Garden

The pea plants grew rapidly in our garden and have given us plentiful amounts of peas.

A successful harvest puts one's mind at ease and gives us satisfaction in knowing that all went well. Our efforts paid off and a large quantity of the peas were gathered last week.

We're like peas in a pod in our similar love for the garden.

Geeks' Night Out

Our club had their own booth set up at  the annual Geeks' Night Out in Downtown Tempe. At our booth we mentioned the activities of our club and showed event goers the plants we grew.

We also tried a new experiment at our booth- purifying tainted water. The unclean water is first poured into the top layer of the mechanism and is then left to settle out the sediments from the water.

After approximately 30 minutes, the valve is opened to let the water from the top tank flow into the middle tank. In the second tank, little microorganism clean the impure substances from the water. Gradually, the water will become clean in the third tank where some substances are added to ensure the purity of the water.

Spring is in the air

Spring is in the air, that is in Arizona at least.  I think the people of the northeast would be glad to say the same.

In Arizona, in this particular zone, we plant tomatoes.

The soil was prepped with horse manure and a bit of coffee grounds.
This will be our second growing season at Corona.  We chose a variety of types from the FIGG sale that took place on Saturday.

Gifting the Harvest

What fun it was to invite Corona staff to come out, harvest, and take home a bag of freshly picked radishes, collard greens, peas, kale, even carrots.

Harvest time is a time of bounty and we like to share our bounty.

A Little Encouragement Goes a Long Way

Those turnips have gotten bigger from the little seedlings they were in October. Plants are a reminder that you reap what you sow and that with love and nourishment, anything can grow. As the year passes by, we learn new ways of taking our garden and become better, more appreciative gardeners.

Painting the Trashcan

Every garden isn't complete without something that reflects the gardener(s). For this project, the trashcan was first cleaned and then painted with primer. Lastly, bright paints and borders were added to make the trashcan look like a garden mosaic. We were proud of coming up with a design that reflects one of the goals of the Corona Grows club: helping the garden and people reach their maximum potential.
